Oh Noah He Didn't!

After leaving Oakdale, Soaphunks.net Award winner Jake Silbermann has been honing his craft on stage, with his starring role as Brad in the play "3C," which parodies the classic comedy Three's Company, with the 2009 Adonis runner-up as the male lead.

About 3C:  The war in Vietnam is over and Brad, an ex-serviceman, lands in L.A. to start a new life. When he winds up trashed in Connie and Linda’s kitchen after a wild night of partying, the three strike a deal for an arrangement that has hilarious and devastating consequences for everyone.

Silbermann has also been making headlines for baring all, as his character is introduced on stage fully nude, showing more than he ever could on ATWT. "3C" is currently showing at the Rattlestick Theater in New York City and is set to wrap on July 14th.

38th Annual Daytime Emmy Nominations

The usual suspects and some strange head-scratchers dominated the list of nominees for the 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. GH led with 21 nominations, while Y&R claimed 20.

Both of those soaps are up for Best Drama Series, along with AMC (13 noms) and last year's winner, B&B (14 nods).

OLTL, generally considered to be the best soap on the air, received scant recognition thanks to their annual bungling of tape submissions. (Really, OLTL? You submitted "Starr X'ed Lovers?") The show received 12 nominations, nothing bigger than the supporting races.

NBC's lone soap, DAYS, received five nominations. The now canceled ATWT got four nods in its last at-bat.

Among soap hunks nominated were DAYS' James Scott and Chandler Massey, GH's Jason Thompson and Chad Duell, Y&R's Billy Miller, and B&B's Scott Clifton.

Austin Peck gains new Life!

In breaking soap news, Austin will bring his award-winning pecs to Llanview! That's the word from Soap Opera Digest, which is reporting that Austin Peck is joining One Life to Live in a new contract role.

Peck is best known for his stints on DAYS and ATWT. The 9-time Soaphunks.net Award winner scored a Best Hunk award for his role as the often-shirtless Austin Reed on DAYS. Peck followed up that role by showing off not just his hot body, but also his acting chops, when he took on the role of Brad Snyder on ATWT. Now, Peck will complete the network trifecta as he joins the hunky cast of OLTL.

Peck made waves during his ATWT stint due to his reported off-screen romance with co-star Terri Conn, who also recently joined OLTL as the scheming Aubrey. There's no word yet on who Peck will be playing, or whether he'll interact with his real-life love on the series. One thing's for sure: OLTL has a tradition of making good use of their soap hunks and it shouldn't be long before Peck is showing off his pecs in Llanview.

Peck begins filming at the end of January.

David A. Gregory, OLTL lead 12th Annual Soaphunks.net Award nominations

With a near-record seven nods, OLTL breakout sensation David A. Gregory led all nominees Wednesday as the 12th Annual Soaphunks.net Award nominations were announced live at soaphunks.net. 80 nominations were announced covering 16 categories.

Gregory placed in the top category--Best Hunk--along with B&B's Brandon Beemer, OLTL's David Fumero, DAYS' Eric Martsolf, and GH's Brandon Barash.

Beemer won Best Hunk last year, while Fumero won in both 2001 & 2002. Beemer is now the only person to be nominated for the top award in four consecutive years, while Fumero's mention ties the record for most Best Hunk nominations ever with five. This is Martsolf's third career Best Hunk nod, and Barash's debut appearance here marks GH's first inclusion in the top category since 2005.

A total of 38 soap hunks received nominations this year, down one from 2009 but still among the most ever. With 25 nominations, OLTL led all shows for the third consecutive year, helping ABC lead the networks with 41 nominations. CBS scored 20 nods, with NBC right behind with 19.

Other points of interest:

  • As the world stopped turning for ATWT this year, so did its luck with the Soaphunks.net Awards, placing in only two categories: Best Butt for Billy Magnussen and Most Missed Soap Hunk for Austin Peck. ATWT finishes with a total of 64 nominations and (thus far) 12 wins.
  • For the first time in awards history, one soap has managed to claim four of the five available spots in a category. The Best Arms race this year pits OLTL's Fumero, Gregory, Mark Lawson, and Max Tapper all in the same category.
  • After 2009 finally saw wins for perennial bridesmaids Thad Luckinbill and Shemar Moore of Y&R, now GH's Tyler Christopher widens his stance in the role of the Soaphunks.net Susan Lucci. Christopher's Best Arms nomination is his lucky 13th with no wins.
  • For the first year in Soaphunks.net Awards history, AMC's Cameron Mathison was not nominated in any category. Mathison had placed in at least one category every year since the first awards in 1999. Still, the former Best Hunk winner holds the all-time record for most nominations with a whopping 37.

The entire list of nominations can be streamed online, while the text version is also available. Complete year-by-year history of the awards is also available online.

As always, voting begins December 1 at soaphunks.net.

Mr. Peck teams up with Mr. PEC-tacular

Former DAYS and ATWT hottie Austin Peck has found a new business partner: bodybuilding champion and two-time competitor on the hit CBS reality show Big Brother, Jessie Godderz.

According to the website Wrestle Zone, Peck (a six-time nominee & two-time winner for Best Pecs on this site's Soaphunks.net Awards) appears in Godderz' workout DVD The Mr. PEC-Tacular Jessie Godderz Arm & Chest Workout, which is expected to be released by Thanksgiving.

As if that project weren't exciting enough, Peck and Godderz just finished filming a television pilot in New York called The Peck-ing Order.

Keep showing off your perfect pecs, Mr. Peck!

ATWT's Jake Silbermann okay with 3rd place Adonis finish

Soap guru Michael Fairman sat down for an interview with ATWT's Jake Silbermann, who reflected not only on the curtain closing on Oakdale but also his third place finish in Adonis 2010 here at soaphunks.net.

Silbermann finished behind winner James Scott of DAYS and runner-up Dominic Zamprogna of GH. He finished in 2nd place in Adonis 2009.

Check out the interview here, and thanks Michael for the shout-out!

World stops turning: ATWT cancelled

Multiple sources, including Procter & Gamble, are reporting this morning that AS THE WORLD TURNS, the classic 54-year-old CBS soap opera, has been cancelled and will last air in September 2010.

After the cancellations of PASSIONS and GUIDING LIGHT, ATWT had moved into the bottom rung of the Nielsen ratings. Its cancellation leaves CBS with just two soaps, reduces the entire industry to a mere six shows, and takes Procter & Gamble out of the soap business entirely.

On the hunk front, ATWT was near the top of the list, compiling 62 Soaphunks.net Award nominations and 12 wins. It also was the stomping grounds of Mark Collier, one of the premier soap hunks of all time and the winner of this site's Adonis 2005 contest.

Put simply, this just SUCKS.

11th Annual Soaphunks.net Awards announced!

With six nods each, DAYS' Shawn Christian and OLTL's Mark Lawson led all nominees Wednesday as the 11th Annual Soaphunks.net Award nominations were announced live at soaphunks.net. 80 nominations were announced covering 16 categories.

Both Christian and Lawson placed in the top category, Best Hunk, along with B&B's Brandon Beemer, OLTL's David Fumero, and Y&R's Daniel Goddard.

Lawson won Best Hunk last year, while Fumero won in both 2001 & 2002. Beemer is now only the third person to be nominated for the top award in three consecutive years. This is Christian's second career Best Hunk nod, and Goddard's debut appearance here marks Y&R's first inclusion in the top category since 2005.

A total of 39 soap hunks received nominations this year, a tie for the second-most ever. With 18 nominations, OLTL led all shows for the second consecutive year, helping ABC lead the
networks with 33 nominations. CBS scored 28 nods, and NBC nabbed 19.

Other points of interest:
  • The good news for CBS: B&B once again broke its own record for nominations, with nine nods spread amongst Beemer, Don Diamont (scoring his 26th career mention), Texas Battle, and Rick Hearst. Similarly, sister soap Y&R had its second-best year ever, with 14 nominations. (The CBS flagship soap received 17 nominations in 2000.)

  • The bad news for CBS: ATWT posted its worst showing in six years, scoring only three nominations. What's worse: the de-hunkified sudser saw all three of those nods (Van Hansis, Billy Magnussen, & Jake Silbermann) in the Most Shamefully Clothed Category. Memo to ATWT's powers-that-be: Shirts! Off! More!
  • The nominations for Murray Bartlett and Lawrence St. Victor mark the final nods for GL, bringing its series total to 28 nominations...and no wins.
  • Will you guys ever give the boy a trophy? The Soaphunks.net Susan Lucci, Y&R's Thad Luckinbill, is back with two more nominations, extending his unfortunate lead in the no-wins race, with 18 career nominations but no wins.

  • AMC's Cameron Mathison, suddenly finding himself eligible for Best Hunk Over 40 honors, picked up two more nominations this year, widening his lead as the most nominated soap hunk ever, with 37 career nominations.

The entire list of nominations can be streamed online, while the text version is also available. Complete year-by-year history of the awards is also available online.

As always, voting begins December 1 at soaphunks.net.

Leyden set for brief Oakdale return

Just how many love interests does Katie Peretti need?

Just as the eminent return of studly Mark Collier was leaked, it's immediately being followed by news of a limited return by Paul Leyden, the Aussie hunk who has played scoundrel Simon Frasier off and on for the better part of a decade.

A 6-time Soaphunks.net Award nominee, Leyden is slated for a return around the holidays.

On your Mark: Collier gets set to go to ATWT?

Just as ATWT is sending hunky Austin Peck packing, we're hearing that none other than dreamboat Mark Collier has been contacted (again) for a return to Oakdale as heroic Mike Kasnoff.

Collier, among the most popular soap hunks on daytime during his tenure with the soap from 2003-07, has been repeatedly asked back to the show over the past two years--always turning them down. This time, though, we're hearing he said yes. No official word yet from the sudser.

Collier is a 5-time Soaphunks.net Award winner, including the Best Hunk prize in 2004. He also won the Adonis 2005 contest.

Austin Peck axed from ATWT

Nine-time Soaphunks.net Award winner Austin Peck has been dismissed from ATWT, in a move being confirmed by everyone except the show itself.

It seems safe to say that Peck's release was not under amicable circumstances, as TV Guide's Nelson Branco is reporting that Peck did not even sit with his ATWT co-stars at last week's Emmys. (Instead he resided with his former compatriots from DAYS.) Where might Peck end up next? Obviously DAYS would be the most logical destination, but no word yet.

Get more of the lowdown in Branco's column.

McCouch back to ATWT; Prescott out

In a surprising development, fan favorite and Soaphunks.net Award winner Grayson McCouch is set to return to ATWT on Sept. 24, less than a year after being killed off the sudser. No word yet on how McCouch's Dusty Donovan will be able to turn up very much alive.

McCouch is known for a very loyal online fan base, who helped him to strong finishes in the Adonis 2004, 2005, and 2006 contests.

In other ATWT soap hunks news, the latest recast for Mike Kasnoff (Jon Prescott) has been axed from the soap for "budgetary reasons." Prescott took over the role earlier this year, following the tremendously popular Shawn Christian and Mark Collier. Soap hunk fans will surely note that while Prescott was in the role, Mike--one of the most frequently shirtless characters in daytime history--went topless a total of zero times.

ATWT casts third actor to play Mike Kasnoff

After the two previous actors to play ATWT's Mike Kasnoff (Shawn Christian and Mark Collier) ended up being voted as being among the 10 sexiest soap hunks of all time, it should be apparent that the newly-cast Jon Prescott has some hunky shoes to fill.

Prescott begins airing in March as Mike returns to Oakdale to re-enter Katie's orbit. (Meanwhile, Christian will begin airing as a hunky new doctor on DAYS the same month.)

McCouch out at ATWT

ATWT and Grayson McCouch (Dusty Donovan) are parting ways after five years. After years of being wasted by the soap with subpar storylines, rumor has it that McCouch refused a pay cut and decided to exit. McCouch, who has always been active during pilot season and sometimes temporarily away from the soap, has already taped his last episode. No word on a recast.
Here at the site, McCouch gained attention with a 5th place finish in the Adonis 2004 contest, followed by back-to-back 4th place finishes in Adonis 2005 and 2006.
P.S. Brian Bloom, I'd welcome you back anytime.

ATWT's hunky new Chris Hughes

In the latest change for one of the most recast roles in daytime history, ATWT has cast Dylan Bruce as the 8th incarnation of Chris Hughes. Woof! Expect Chris to be tangled up with Emily in his initial storyline.

Bruce first hits the Oakdale airwaves on October 23. Shirtless, we hope. ;)
